about

Laurence Made Me Cry is musician and artist Jo Whitby, currently splitting her time between Glasgow and the Highlands of Scotland.

‘Titans’ Daughters’, originally planned to be LMMC’s second album following on from the 2013 Welsh Music Prize nominated debut ‘The Diary Of Me’, is a two-part EP release, the second of which will be out later in the year. Working with Swansea based producer Simon Parton, the EP is an electronic wave with an undercurrent of folk. Featuring vocal appearances from Scottish artists Rachel Sermanni (Mneme, Mneme II) and Chrissy Barnacle (By The Throat) as well as Parton providing lead vocals on The Muse.

‘Melete’ was the first single to be taken from the EP - a gentle and brooding exploration of heartbreak. The track saw Whitby delve further into the world of electronica, swapping her folk guitar style for minimalist piano paired together with the ambient lushness of Parton’s beats and synths.

Track Name: By The Throat
Distracted by the contours of your spine
Tingles as fingers follow
Caught in the moonlight like silver and silk
A blanket against your skin

Out from the shadows and into your palm
Hold the night to your lips and whisper all your wrongs
Out from the shadows and into your palm
Hold the night to your lips

The devil comes but she is still sleeping
Do you dare to wake her
Cold is the ground that bites at your bones
You are blood and we are fire
Track Name: Melete
I couldn’t lose you, not this time
But I was sure you’d know by now
Is this what you really want?
Well, I’ll be ok
Is this what you really want?

I gave it too much thought, I tried to keep you
We never made it that far, we never made it at all
I couldn’t help myself around you
I couldn’t help myself

Practice makes perfect sense
Put it all together and try again
Practice makes perfect sense

I was ready
She wasn’t ready
No

We can take a step back, just be friends
I’d do it again, I’d do it again
We can take a step back, just be friends

Practice makes perfect sense
Track Name: Siren
Get in line and wait your turn
It might never come but I'll give you hope
I'll give you hope

Like a sirens song
The power I hold
Do you have the strength, do you?
Let your heart overtake

Reel you in, reel you in, reel you in close
Closer still

Tied to the mast I hear your call
These ropes are held fast so I will not fall
Into the sea the fools they follow
The hope that you give is all but hollow

Reel you in, reel you in, reel you in close
Closer
Track Name: Mneme
In a field of flowers, red and blue
I will wait patiently
Pressing down with hope so heavy laden
My love for you remains strong

Summer time, I return here still
In this field where I first met you
Our promises in pages thick
Each flower I’ll remember

Tu m'as dit attends-moi
Je reviens l'an prochain
Tes yeux fixés sur mes mains
La tristesse mêlée à notre joie

Coming back to me but gone so soon
At least I know your heart is safe
In the field of flowers, red and blue
Now the seed we planted is growing
Track Name: The Muse
Gently, she comes
Stepping lightly as the ground could slip away
From beneath her
But I would never let her fall
Even though my love is silent
For she knows that I will always see her

I will always see her

(To know what the light can bring)
Tell me, tell me
(See beauty in everything)
Don’t ever change
(To love is a heart that sings)
I hear her, I hear her
(See beauty in everything)
Don’t ever change

Slowly, she rises
Seeking solace in the wake of my storm
Impatience
But I am afraid to lose her now
Even though my love is silent
For she knows that I will always give in

I will always give in

(To know what the light can bring)
Tell me, tell me
(See beauty in everything)
Don’t ever change
(To love is a heart that sings)
I hear her, I hear her
(See beauty in everything)
Don’t ever change
Track Name: Mneme II
Tu m'as dit attends-moi
Je reviens l'an prochain
Tes yeux fixés sur mes mains
La tristesse mêlée à notre joie
